Elder's Center
San Xavier District Tohono O'odham Nation

A meeting hall for Native American Elders' at San Xavier District, just west of the historic landmark Mission San Xavier. Built of volcanic stone gathered from nearby Black Mountain, which is considered sacred to the tribal Elders. The building consists of an enclosed courtyard shaded by a traditional Tohono O'odham wa:tho (ramada) fronting the Elders' Hall. ; Functions include social and health programs as well as art, language and crafts activities.
Designed 1991-93, completed 1995 (project begun by Bob Vint, Architect, in August 1991; continued with Gibbs & Vint, Architects, 1992-1993; completed by Vint & Associates, 1993 -1995)
